SARGODHA-A police officer stressed a need for prison reforms to ensure the protection of the prisoners’ rights in compliance with international standards and norms.

During a press meeting in District Jail Vehari, Jail Vehari Superintendent Syed Babar Ali shared the performance report of the jail regarding the issue of unhealthy and unhygienic water.

“We have established four sources of clean water according to prisoners’ requirements from Pakpattan canal route. Multiple water plants have been installed to accommodate the prisoners. It is a lethal issue that has been solved now. Deputation of educated prisoners as teachers in District Jail is another priority as they are educating the prisoners. Literacy centre has been approved now in district jail to overcome the study lapses within the boundary,” he said.

Philanthropists did a great job and provided most of the facilities at the jail, he said. He also said, “We have a dream to provide proper facilities of education in every level. He requested to DCO Ali Akbar Bhatti to provide the professional teachers so that prisoners can be imparted knowledge according to their needs and priorities.
