Rawalpindi-Heavy rain hit the city on Wednesday raising the water level in Nullah Leh and causing small floods in low lying areas.   
High ups of all the civic bodies including Water and Sanitation Agency, Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards have put the sanitary and other staff on high alert to combat any untoward situation in the city.
 Similarly, Pakistan Army troops were also called in the city to handle any kind of emergency. Army troops were stationed in Gawalmandi, Murree Road and other areas.  
 WAPDA suspended the supply of electricity causing troubles for citizens. Traffic remained jammed on several roads after rain water inundated various localities. Business activities in many markets remained slow due to rain.
Rescue 1122 rescuers have also been put on high alert by the district government.
According to district government spokesman, the water level was recorded upto 21 feet at Kattarian and 17 feet in Kattarian and Gawalmandi bridges in Leh Nullah compelling the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and district administration to issue warning to the residents living along bank of Leh Nullah so that they would shift to safer places.      
WASA spokesman said that the water level in Leh Nullah increased to 21 feet and 17 feet at Kattarian and Gawalmandi bridges respectively and a pre alert had been issued to the emergency departments in the city.  He said Managing Director (MD) WASA Raja Shaukat Mehmood himself remained present in all the areas and monitored the operation being conducted by the staffers. 
He said WASA have moved machinery to rain affected areas for pumping out the water from roads and streets. He said that till afternoon, the water was drained out and the people moved on the roads and streets without any fear. He said that the issue was handled.   
In result of heavy rain, water entered in several houses and shops in the areas of Bohar Bazaar, Moti Bazaar, Sadiqabad, Javed Colony, Arya Mohala, Chandni Chowk, Dhoke Hassu, Dhoke Elahi Bux, Nadeem Colony, Commercial Market, Jamia Masjid Road, Murree Road and other localities. People and shopkeepers could be seen pumping out rain water with tubs and other pots. 
Meanwhile, Federal Minister of Interior Sheikh Rasheed Khan paid a visit to Gawalmandi Bridge to monitor the working performance of civic bodies. 
He was flanked by Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Amir Aqeeq Khan, Managing Director WASA Raja Shaukat Mehmood and other senior and junior officers of Municipal Corporation on the occasion. Sheikh Rasheed directed the authorities concerned to provide the citizens all the facilities in case of any emergency.
