Six killed, 40 injured after bus overturns near Layyah

Rawalpindi bound bus turned turtle while saving a donkey cart owner and youth

LAYYAH - At least six passengers including two women were killed and another 40 sustained serious injuries on Wednesday when a Rawalpindi bound bus, turned turtle near Jaman Shah, some nine km away from here.  

A spokesperson of Rescue-1122 told APP that the ill-fated bus met the accident reportedly due to over speeding. 

He informed that five people died on the spot while another breathed his last at District Headquarter Hospital Layyah adding that the injured were also shifted to DHQ Layyah and THQ Kot Sultan. The bus turned topsy-turvy while saving a donkey cart, he said and added that four injured were also given first aid. 

An eye witness Muhammad Iqbal informed that the bus started journey at quarter past five in the morning from Kot Addu and had an accident at 6am. He stated that the driver tried his best to avoid the accident by taking three turns, but unfortunately it rammed into a tree as result of third turn for saving lives of donkey cart owner and a youth Jamil (30) who was on morning walk. 

“We helped to take the bodies and injured out of the bus. Five people had died on the spot while 18 passengers were critically wounded.” Mr Iqbal explained. The bus belonged to a private company of layyah, he said. 

The whereabouts of the driver were unknown, the eyewitness informed. The dead were identified as Amir Ali (35), Muhammad Jamil, (30), Razo Mai (55),  Imran (30) and two unknown persons, the spokesperson said.

The wounded included:  Sharifian Bibi (55), Rabnawaz (50), kalsoom Akhtar (38). Aqeel Jaffar (38), Abdur Rehamn (50), M.Jamil (30) Shams-ul-Hassan (30) Saleem (30), Farman (25), Shahid (30) Zulfiqar (30), Mukhtiar (35), Shoaib, 935), Iqra Bibi (6), Irshad (22), Munawar (38), Akmal930), farrah(25), Asim (26) and others, he concluded.     

Punjab CM expresses
condolence over deaths

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar exppressed heartfelt grief and condolence over the death of six passengers, with 40 another who sustained serious injuries in a road accident occurred at Jaman Shah, some nine km away from here.

The Chief Minister in his condolence message expressed his sympathies with the bereaved families. He prayed that Allah Almighty may rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the grieved families.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Usman Buzdar sought detailed report from top police officials and district administration about cause of the accident followed by relief measures provided to the victims. He said that he and his administration was part of the grief of the aggrieved families who had lost their dear ones in the tragic accident.

One dies in Hafizabad as bus hits bike

A young bike rider was killed on-the-spot while three others including two women were seriously injured when a speeding bus hit the bike near Masjid Pindi Bhattian on Wednesday evening. 

According to rescue source, the deceased along with his relations were on way to his village on a bike when the mishap took place. 

The Rescue-1122 shifted the dead body and the injured to the hospital. The deceased has not yet been identified. The bus driver sped away after the mishap. The police have registered a case accordingly. 

Meanwhile, a young married woman of Jalalpur Bhattian was seriously tortured and humiliated by her five opponents on Gujranwala Road here today. 

According to police source, Razia Bibi wife of Muhammad Boota has submitted a complaint against accused Raees, Shahbaz and others. She was returning from the DPO office after inquiry but the accused Raees, Shahbaz, Najma Bibi, Nagina Bibi and another way laid her tore off clothes and seriously tortured her on the roadside. The police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating. The accused are still at large.
