KARACHI - The Thai-Pakistani Chamber of Commerce (TPCC) has honoured leading businessman Arif Suleman for his distinguished services for the promotion of Pakistan-Thailand trade, economic, cultural and tourism exchanges, says a press release. In a special ceremony held at the Pakistan Embassy in Bangkok, Secretary General Zahid Rathore and other members of TPCC paid rich tributes to Arif Suleman and highlighted his efforts in bringing the two business communities closer and promoting people-to-people links, says a message from Bangkok issued here. Arif Suleman, a Karachi-based CEO of several companies and serving on the Board of Directors of multiple organisations, has been actively contributing to his cause for over three decades. Recently, he assumed office as the Chair of The Pak-Thai Business Council at FPCCI (Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry). The Secretary General of Thai-Pakistani Chamber, Zahid Rathore, presented a special shield to Arif Suleman during the ceremony. Pakistans Ambassador to Thailand Sohail Mahmood was also present. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood warmly felicitated Arif Suleman and noted that the TPCC award was a due acknowledgement of his dedicated and tireless efforts, which were fully recognized by both governments as well. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) had conferred the 5th Friend of Thailand Award to Arif Suleman in 2004. In 2006, he was appointed as the only Honorary Trade Advisor of Thai Ministry of Commerce in Pakistan. Most notably, in 2009, Arif Suleman was awarded the coveted Royal Decoration - 5th Order of Direkgunabhorn. He is the only Pakistani to have received such awards and positions along with the Royal Decoration. Ambassador Sohail Mahmood added that such recognition of Arif Suleman by the Royal Thai Government was a matter of pride for Pakistan. Arif Suleman expressed his gratitude for the award presented by TPCC. The Ambassador also updated the TPCC members on the various initiatives currently underway to strengthen business-to-business and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Thailand.
