LAHORE The family whose three members were gunned down this past Sunday along with a neighbour by a notorious proclaimed offenders in Nawankot, have expressed their total distrust in the police department and appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhaar Muhammad Chaudhary and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to provide them justice. About six criminal equipped with automatic weapons had sprayed a volley of bullets on renowned social worker and Numberdar of the area Malik Muhammad Ashraf (60), his son Malik Muhammad Azhar alias Aji (30) and Ashrafs friend Muhammad Hussain Asif, a tea stall owner, killing them on the spot. Senior advocate Bar Mohsin Ashraf, the son of the deceased Ashraf, said here Tuesday his loved ones had been killed after they refused to compromise on an old enmity. Four criminals Asif Pistool, Saleem alias Cheema, Muhammad Asif, and Khalid Farooq had killed my brother Babar Ashraf on December 5, 2005. They are in Kot Lakhpat Jail. They were pressurising my father to compromise otherwise they would kill him too, he claimed. The recent gruesome incident took place at about 8:40pm in Main Bazaar of Kot Kambooh, Nawankot, when Ashraf, flanked by his ill-fated son and friends, was sitting outside his house. About 12 bullets were pumped into Ashrafs chest. Several more into the forehead of his friend Hussain, a family member said. Amna Bibi, the only daughter of the deceased Ashraf, also sustained a bullet wound to her shoulder, he added. I cannot forget the scene when my son Azhar tried to capture the criminals who were still firing bullets seconds after he appeared on the scene. Exactly that moment some other gangsters appeared and sprayed a volley of bullets on him, Qaisra Sultana, the wife of the deceased Malik Ashraf, told this scribe while tears rolled down her cheeks. Had the Nawankot police arrested the all those remaining killers of my brother the recent horrible episode could have been averted, Mohsin said. Nawankot Investigation In-Charge Inspector Mian Jaseem expressed his complete ignorance about the developments of the previous as well as the current incidents.
