KARACHI - Officials of Excise and Taxation Department are allegedly transferring vehicles with false signatures for their lucrative interest, The Nation learnt here on Tuesday. According to details, the officials of E&T Department are allegedly found involved in the transfer of various vehicles without the consent of actual owners. The Anti-Corruption and Establishment Department registered the case 43/2001 against Excise & Taxation Officer ETO Safdar Baig, Clerk Majid of Transport Department, ART Wing Officer Rashid and Communication Department Deputy Director Shareef-ur-Rehman on complainant of Muhammad Zubair. Complainant Zubair in his statement revealed that his coach bearing registration number PE-0005 has illegally been transferred. The ownership of the coach has been changed to some other owner named Anwar Khan. He stated that the transferred vehicles documents had gone missing some 20 days before transfer which was reported in Baghdadi police station. In another incident, the Excise Department also transferred another car bearing registration number ATH-746 without the consent of the real owner. Complainant Tanweer Fatima appealed to police and excise department high-ups to resolve the issue of illegal transfer and dispatch application in all concern departments. The car was in the custody of her former husband Kazim Ali who has been arrested by SIU police along with the car over fraud case. The complaint has already registered in Samnabad police station for illegal custody of the car and submitted in Excise Department to stop transfer of the car. The SIU police picked up Kazim and impounded the car, however, it was not handed over to the owner and the said car was illegally transferred without her appearance and signature. It is pertinent to mention here that it would be easy to transfer the vehicle without the appearance of owner through agents. The Excise Department transfers the vehicles just on transfer letter and even without the vehicle after getting required amount. The said department has yet to develop the mechanism to check the original signatures for transferring.
