LAHORE – Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Habib-ur-Rehman has directed police officers to continue hot pursuit of criminals until their arrest since it was the prime duty of the police to protect life, property and respect of the citizens.
Rehman further said that police officers should entertain public complaints by holding open courts from thana to district level, and that grievances of the people must be redressed on top priority basis.
This was stated by the provincial police chief while presiding over a high-level meeting held at the Hassan Raza Police Complex, Rawalpindi, on Thursday to review the crime situation of the Rawalpindi region.
Rawalpindi RPO Capt (r) Muhammad Zubair, Police College Sihala Commandant DIG Ghulam Rasool Zahid, Rawalpindi CPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar, Attock DPO Hilal Khan, Jhelum DPO Dar Ali Khatak, Chakwal DPO Kashif Mushtaq Kanju and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
DIG Zahid briefed the IGP about training facilities available at the Police College Sihala, while other officers gave briefing about the overall crime situation in their respective districts.
The IGP said that the police should work with dedication for the apprehension of culprits involved in heinous crimes. Lauding the overall performance of the police in districts of the Rawalpindi range, he stressed that security, eradication of crime, and arrest of proclaimed offenders and anti-law elements should be given special priority.
Rehman also underlined the need for giving special attention to training of police officers at the Police College Sihala, as per requirements of the present time. He directed police officers to be polite and decent with citizens visiting their offices and police stations for redress of their complaints.
The IGP expressed satisfaction over decrease in the crime rate in the Rawalpindi range during the first six months of the current year as compared with the first half of the previous year. He said that public complaints should be listened to at the level of police station, “so that people may get relief at the earliest and they do not have to contact senior police officers.”
Also, Punjab IGP Mohammad Habib-ur-Rehman issued on Thursday transfer / posting orders of two police officers. According to a notification, Shahid Hafeez, Additional SP City Division, Gujranwala, has been transferred and posted as Senior Traffic Officer, Rawalpindi, against an existing vacancy; while Muhammad Iqbal, SP PHP, Sargodha, has been closed to Central Police Office, Lahore, with immediate effect.
