DHA project receives US award

KARACHI (PR): After a year-long evaluation, the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure in Washington DC, USA, has given the “International Award” to Defence Housing Authority City Karachi (DCK).

According to the DHA spokesperson, the award was received by DCK project director Brig Mohammad Rafique at a ceremony held at the Metro Centre in Washington DC.

The award has also been conferred upon the DCK’s lead consultants Osmani and Company (Pvt) Ltd with their international associates Prof Spiro Pollalis, Doxiadis and RMJM.

Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure is an internationally recognised organisation that maintains a rating system for civil infrastructure in the world.

During the ceremony, the institute’s chief executive William Berterra appreciated the leadership role taken by Pakistan in sustainable planning of cities.

He reiterated adopting a sustainable infrastructure for a whole city had been done for the first time and appreciated Pakistani engineers and planners for achieving this gigantic task within 12 months.

He said DCK had now become a sustainability benchmark, which will be followed in developing other cities around the world.

PSQCA organises training on ISO 9001-2008

KARACHI (PR): Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, as the National Standardization Body of Pakistan organized 02 days Awareness Training Course based on ISO 9001-2008 on Quality Management System which was held at Regent Plaza, Karachi

The ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a Quality Management System where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

All requirements of ISO 9001:2008 are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organizations, regardless of type, size and product provided. The trainer Engr. Zaheer Channa, Director of Ideal Experts, Karachi delivered the information and highlighted the importance of Quality Management system.

SSGC doubles efforts against gas thieves

KARACHI (PR): SSGC is taking concrete steps to curb the menace of gas theft and especially since the inception of Criminal Act 2011 and support of FIA, significant number of gas theft cases has been unearthed and claims have been subsequently lodged.

This was reiterated by Zuhair Siddiqui MD, SSGC and his team during a presentation given to the Senate Standing Committee for Petroleum and Natural Resources, headed by its Chairman Senator Muhammad Yousuf. The MD and his team also briefed the committee members on the LNG Services Agreement of the Fast Track LNG Project.  Jam Kamal Khan, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources and Naeem Malik, Additional Secretary, P&NR also deliberated in detail on the issues related to gas theft, UFG and LNG.

Committee members Senator Rozi Khan Kakar, Senator Rubina Irfan and Senator Hamza, Kazi Salim Siddiqui, DG (Gas), Shahid Yousuf, DG (Liquid Gases) and Mobin Saulat, MD, Inter State Gas Systems (Pvt.) Ltd. participated in the meeting by sharing their perspectives on various points in the agenda.   A day earlier, the Committee members and other government functionaries had visited the proposed site of the Engro Elengy’s LNG Terminal.

Buksh Foundation attends UN Summit

LAHORE (PR): Buksh Foundation, in its pursuit of provision of energy solutions to impoverished communities of Pakistan, represented the Country at the UN Foundation- 1st Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) forum, an initiative to mobilize action from all sectors of society to realize sustainable energy for all by 2030.

Fiza Farhan participated on behalf of Buksh Foundation at the Summit. The forum invited practitioners from all over the world striving to make energy accessible to all throughout the world.

UN Foundation-SE4ALL has three goals: access, efficiency and renewable energy to create an impact at the global level and also to recognize that access to modern affordable energy services in developing countries was essential for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals.

Fiza Farhan, CEO-Buksh Foundation, while representing Pakistanat the forum “stressed the importance of the Network in working with private sector foundations to leverage more public financing for energy access, adding that understanding market dynamics and giving investors what they need buys a solution. She further talked about how Renewable energy is becoming increasingly cost competitive therefore, the key to catalyze investment is through the provision of innovative and sustainable models attracting all diversified national and internationaldonors”
