Satellite images of Margalla Hills summoned in SC's suo motu case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Wednesday summoned satellite images of Margalla Hills National Park both from the 2013 record and the current in suo motu case pertaining to felling of trees and quarrying of hills.

A three-member bench of apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the case that was lodged after a suo motu action.

The court issued summons to District Police Officers, Superintendents of Police, Station House Officers concerned and Capital Development Authority’s Environment wing members and ordered to make their presence sure in next hearing on July 20.

Justice Saeed remarked that governments do not take courts’ orders seriously and believe that there orders could not be challenged.

The Supreme Court would bring the government “back to the 21st century from the era of PCO,” Justice Saeed said.

Further, replies were sought from governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and the federation of plea of stone-crushers.

Earlier this month, Chief Justice of Pakistan had barred use of explosives by stone-crushers at the hills stating that protection of environment is our responsibility.

Cracks have appeared in houses built relatively nearer to the hills, he added then while taking up a suo motu action against axing of trees.
