The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended time for polling in the upcoming general on July 25.

The decision was taken on Friday in order to ensure the maximum participation of voters, according to a statement by the commission. Polling will now be held from 8 am to 6 pm for a total of 10 hours without any recess.

This is for the first time the polling duration has been extended in Pakistan.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also requested the ECP to extend polling time for elections. However, election commission didn't accept the request.

The electoral body remarked that the polling time will be from 8am to 5pm, adding that it cannot be extended.

General elections are scheduled to be held on July 25, 2018.
