A 34-year-old man was shot dead by his opponents in Harbanspura, police said on Thursday. The body was moved to the morgue for autopsy. The deceased was identified as Nasir Jameel, a resident of Gulshan Park, Harbanspura. His family told the police that Nasir was attacked by Adeel and his accomplices on a busy road. The attackers opened straight fire on Nasir and fled instantly. The man received multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died later. The police have registered a murder case against the alleged killers and launched the investigation with no arrest so far.–Staff Reporter

 

Youth found hanged

 

A 22-year-old man was found hanged at a house in Kot Lakhpat on early Thursday. Police identified the deceased as Anjum Shah, a university student who was residing in rented house near Gondal Chowk. His body was hanging from the ceiling fan with a rope tied to his neck as police reached the house. The body was moved to the morgue. The police were investigating the death.–Staff Reporter

 

Man arrested for raping child

 

Police on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly abused and tortured a six-year-old girl in Badami Bagh. According to police, the suspect is stepfather of the child. The accused was identified as Sabir, a resident of Badami Bagh. The girl was sent to the Child Protection Bureau. A police investigator said that the medical report of the child confirmed that she was badly tortured. The torture marks on the head and arms of the girl were visible, the official said. The police registered a criminal case against the man and launched the investigation. –Staff Reporter

 

Public execution plea referred to LHC CJ

 

A Lahore High Court single bench Thursday referred to THE chief justice a petition seeking public hanging of Ali Imran, rapist and killer of seven-year old Zainab Amin of Kasur, to form a division bench for it's hearing. Senior pusine judge Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq took up the matter by Zainab’s father. The judge observed that the matter should be heard by a division bench as the sentence was awarded to the convict under Anti Terrorism Act,  1997. Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry represented the petition who argued that the appeals of the convict had been dismissed by all legal forums including the high court and the Supreme Court. He stated section 22 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 empowered the government to hang a convict publicly. The counsel asked the court to order the government to hang the convict publically. On Feb 17, an Anti-Terrorism Court awarded death sentence on four counts to Imran Ali after he was found guilty of abducting, raping and killing seven-year old Zainab Amin in Kasur.–Staff Reporter

 

24 suspects arrested in police raids

 

City police (operations) on Thursday claimed to have smashed seven gangs of criminals by arresting their 24 members during the last week.  A police spokesman said different teams of the operations police also arrested five proclaimed offenders and 110 court absconders during the previous week.   DIG (Operations) Shehzad Akbar directed field police officers to utilize their full energies to curb crime in the city and arrest the criminals involved in different unlawful activities.  On his directions, all divisional SPs stepped up their efforts against criminals and showed excellent results during the last week. The police registered 50 cases against 52 accused for having illicit weapon and police also recovered three rifles, 7 guns, 40-revolvers and pistol’s, two daggers and 121 bullets from their possession.  While taking action against drug dealers, police registered 62 cases and arrested 62 culprits. The police also seized 14-kg chars and 640 bottles of liquor from their possession.  Also, at least 12 cases were registered against gamblers and 62 accused were arrested. –Staff Reporter
