Peshawar - Five persons were killed in firing at a Jirga in Sarband area of the provincial capital on Monday, local sources said.
Taking notice of the incident, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Moazzam Jah Ansari issued a circular from CPO on Monday, directing the SDPOs to cancel arms permits in their respective jurisdictions.
The local sources said that a jirga was underway due to a dispute between the parties of Haider and Asghar. The firing left two persons dead on the spot while another three succumbed to injuries at hospital.
The police sources said that those killed and injured were already wanted by the police in various crimes including land grabbing and ice. trafficking. However, an official said the cops were collecting information and visiting the crime scene while this report was being filed.
Meanwhile, IGP Moazzam Jah Ansari issued a circular from the Central Police Office, asking the sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) to cancel all permits issued for arms in their respective jurisdictions.
He directed the Peshawar police chief to visit the area and submit a report in the matter. He also asked the police to activate the dispute resolution councils to resolve disputes among people.
