I first met the late Mr. Raja Assad Hameed during Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry's 's case in the Supreme Court in 2007. At the time, Mr. Hameed, apart from reporting on the day's proceedings, also jotted the interesting anecdotes of the day, so to speak, under the caption 'Courtly Quips'. His aim, ostensibly, was to provide his readers with an inside look into the case that is now referred to as the turning point in our history. He is no longer with us but his contribution in the field of journalism will be remembered for long. On a personal level, he will be remembered as a most gracious person who left everyone feeling the better for having known him. For almost everyone who knew him, his untimely death is a personal loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace and Allah grant his family and colleagues the strength to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude. -SHAHID SAEED, Lahore, via e-mail, March 27.
