ISLAMABAD - The Rs 2.6 billion mega Kohala Hydal Power Project is in limbo due to reported differences between a Chinese company and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Wapda and the Chinese company was signed in 2008, according to which the company had to hand over the project to AJK Government in 30 years on the basis of Build on Operate and Transfer (BOT). After the Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB) issued Letter of Intend to the Chinese company, Wapda demanded 51 per cent ownership right from the company and the matter became controversial. The Prime Minister AJK Sardar Attique Ahmad Khan has written a letter to Prime Minister Pakistan urging him to ensure that the agreement signed between Chinese company and Wapda was being followed in letter and spirit.
