PESHAWAR - Residents and representatives of the civil societies of Chitral on Thursday held a protest demonstration against the former dictator Pervez Musharraf for contesting upcoming general election from the area.

The protestors led by Haji Salahud Din, Abdur Rahman Shah, Asadullah and Muhammad Fazil Shah were holding placards and a banner inscribed with slogans against the former president Musharraf, gathered here at Sher Shah Suri Road outside the Press Club on Thursday.

Condemning the dictatorial government, the infuriated demonstrators also chanted slogans against the former dictator for anti-masses and anti-Pakistan steps in Balochistan and Fata during his tenure.

On the occasion, talking to reporters, the demonstrators said that due to the wrong policies of Pervez Musharraf, the entire nation was passing through a difficult phase of history.

They added that now Musharraf wanted to annihilate the peaceful environment of Chitral as he had decided to contest the forthcoming general election from the district.

They also strongly condemned the decision of Mushrraf to contest election from Chitral without the consent of the locals and asked to immediately withdraw his foolish decision and did not try to come to the area to take part in election.

They alleged that former president was involved in several cases like the imposition of emergency on October 3, killing of innocent Baloch leaders and Lal Masjid operation.

They warned if documents of the ex-dictator were approved by the Election Commission of Pakistan to take part in elections from Chitral, then all the peaceful Chitralis would be compelled to stage a hunger strike in front of the Supreme Court and Election Commission office.
