LAHORE – The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the Punjab Election Commission to accept nomination papers of former PML-N MPA Zaib Jaffar from Punjab whose vote had been transferred to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.

Justice Syed Manoor Ali Shah passed the orders on a petition moved by her challenging the transfer of her vote from Punjab to KPK.

The petitioner submitted she was a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab and had served as a member Punjab Assembly from 2008-2013. However, the Election Commission had transferred her vote to District Haripur, KPK and now she could not take part in elections from Punjab which was her right. She requested the court to issue directions to ECP to correct the record and permission for contesting elections from Punjab.

Following a short notice, a law officer of federal govt appeared before the court and said the petitioner could be provisionally allowed to contest elections from Punjab.
