SIALKOT - The electioneering is reaching fever pitch as political rivals are flexing biceps and diligently wooing voters to win their maximum support here. It has been observed that local leaders of certain political parties and expected candidates have adapted their attitude and sweeten their tones for getting support of the voters during fast-approaching general election. Political parties including the PML-N, PPP, PML-Q and PTI are trying to put strong candidates for the elections.

Moreover, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is gaining popularity with every passing day in rural and urban areas of Sialkot district. According to local political analyst, the growing PTI popularity and massive support particularly the youth is eye-opener for the stiff necked Central leader of both the PML-N Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan. The political pundits that the PTI “political tsunami” will hit NA-110 and NA-111, adding that it seemed Imran-League would dismantle the so-called invincible forts of the PML-N and PPP in Sialkot.

They argued that over the past five years, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan tried hard to demonstrate her supremacy to impress the voters and opponents but was it mere self-projection. Dr Firdous is responsible for the defeat of PPP candidate who contested elections for Azad Kashmir Assembly and though she strengthened the party at grass-roots level, she preferred solo flight by ignoring local PPP leadership,” they pointed.

They claimed that despite a visit by the “King and Queen” makers to Kuba Chak, the elections results would be entirely different as compared to the previous elections. The political pundits described that the public had become silent spectators and adopted the policy of “wait and see” in the district Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils.

Majority of the voters are reluctant to show their party affiliation and interest in the fast-approaching general elections. However, overall elections hustle and bustle picking up pace in and around Sialkot.

On the other hand, while expressing their views both the male and females voters bitterly criticised the PPP-led government, saying that the government had ruined the government departments and economy of the country and did nothing to provide any relief to the common man.

The prolonged outages electricity and Sui gas, rapid skyrocketing in electricity and gas tariffs and prices of daily-use items are the unique gifts for the public which tantamount to snatching bread and butter from the hand of middle and poor segment of society,” they highlighted.

They questioned that what type of services the PPP government had rendered for the betterment of the common man over the past five years in rule?

Ms Yasmeen Saeed while expressing her resentment said that the democratic government left a legacy of massive corruption and incompetency while pushing the country deep into gloom.
