LAHORE - Television anchor Raza Rumi narrowly survived gun attack but his driver was killed in the ambush near Lahore’s Raja market on Friday night.
Police sources said that unidentified armed men targeted Rumi’s car near Raja Market on the Ferozepur Road. His driver Mustafa sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police are investigating the brazen assault keeping in view various aspects of the happening including targeted attack by some militants or a robbery attempt.
Reportedly, Rumi just completed his show and left the studio when unidentified gunmen attacked his car near Raja Market.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and directed the police authorities to trace the attackers.
According to Raza Rumi, although he had not received any direct threats yet he was on the hit list of some extremist organisations. Further investigation was underway.
