ISLAMABAD - Sensational performance by Hamza Mauz helped Fantastic Four outclass mighty Army Colts 10-31/2 in the final of the Serena Polo Tournament to become crowned champions in front of a pack to capacity crowd at Islamabad Polo Ground Saturday.

From five teams to two after three days of dramatic polo action, the event came to a thrilling end on Saturday afternoon Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry was the chief guest on the occasion.

The opening chukker was all about Hamza, 19 year old third generation polo player, who aggressively struck two goals during the opening minutes of the game. Goals came easily for the Fantastic Four as Hamza again scored two consecutive goals in the second chukker. Hashim Zaman scored the first goal for Army Colts to end the second chukker 4-1 ½. Goals continued to come easily for Fantastic Four in the third chukker as the 19 year old talented player Hamza Mauz scored five fantastic goals. Raja Kashif could only score one goal as Fantastic Four galloped onto a huge score of 7-2 1/2 towards the end of the third chukker. Bilal Hammayun of Fantastic Four scored a goal during the last chukker while Fahad and Hashim Zaman of Army colts scored a goal each during the fourth chukker but their efforts were not enough to bring victory for the Army Colts.

Hamza while talking with The Nation said Pakistan was blessed with polo talent and if provided with sufficient funds from government or private sector, the players are capable enough to perform at international stage and bring laurels for the country.

Hamza's father Taimoor Nawaz, grandfather Brig (R) Javed Mauz and great grandfather Brig (R) Gul Nawaz were all very good polo players and represented Pakistan. Hamza started playing polo at Rawalpindi Polo Club. “We have our own horses; we have inherited polo from generations. I also went to England and learn new techniques and also played there. At the moment I have 4 handicap and I want to further enhance that to 6 or 7.”

While in the third position play offs, Millennium Group edged out Fearless 9-8. Chief guest distributed prizes among the teams and players at the closing ceremony.

Hamza was the star attracter and crowd puller as kids and different age groups people gathered around him to take his autograph.
