LAHORE - A man tried to commit suicide by setting himself on fire outside the Lahore Press Club on Saturday in protest against the land grabbers, police and eyewitnesses said.

Identified as Ameer Alam, the man reached Lahore Press Club and set himself on fire by sprinkling petrol around his body. A vendor at a nearby food stall intervened and successfully tried to put out the fire by throwing a tub of water on him.

The man sustained serious burns and was rushed to the Mayo Hospital where his condition was said to be critical. The police are investigating.

According to police findings, Ameer Alam had been running from pillar to post to get evacuated his piece of land from the land grabbers for the last couple of years. On the day of incident, the poor man tried to end his life in protest against land grabbers.
