LAHORE - The 12th Youm-e-Takbeer commemorating the nuclear detonation of Pakistans bombs on May 28, 1998, in reply to the Indian nuclear explosions, was observed with great fervour and zeal here in the city on Friday. Different political and social organisations organised ceremonies to express solidarity and loyalty with Pakistan as the country was declared an atomic power on May 28, 1998. The May 28 warns the neighbouring country that Pakistan is a nuclear state as India is constant threat to Pakistan. Banners and posters of Nawaz Sharif and nuclear scientists were displayed at major road of the City. Newspapers brought out special supplements while TV and radio channels aired programmes in connection with the Youm-e-Takbeer. At that time Pakistani democratic and political leadership played pivotal role for making the country an atomic power ignoring all the external pressures but it was deplorable that a dictator Musharraf toppled Nawazs government in 1999. In various ceremonies held in this connection, the speakers condemned Musharraf who, during his long-term government, did not celebrate the day like Youm-e-Takbeer to pay tributes to nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan and other scientists. In a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Karkunan Tehrik-e-Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif addressed the audience and lauded the services of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan and other scientists. Majid Nizami, who chaired the meeting, said Nawaz Sharif was a loyal politician as he played an important role in declaring his country an atomic power. Pakistan had conducted eight nuclear tests in response to the seven Indian nuclear tests, which was the occasion of great happiness and encouragement for the Pakistanis. In another ceremony held in connection with Youm-e-Takbeer, Qaumi Tajur Ittehad President Iqbal Sheikh said Nawaz Sharif was a real nationalist leader who took the bold step on May 28, 1998, of conducting nuclear tests for the stability and solidarity of Pakistan. Other traders lauded the services and patriotism of Nawaz Sharif and Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan who made Pakistans defence invincible. Traders demanded Nawaz Sharif should come in power again to provide relief to the poor masses from unemployment, spiralling price-hike, aggravating economic conditions of masses and bad law and order situation in the country. Babar Ali Khan, Waqar Hussain, Saleem Arshad, Naeem Ghumman, Baghi Khan, Raja Hamid Riaz and Azmat Shah lauded the role of Nawaz Sharif in their addresses. On the call of Khaksar Tehrik-e-Pakistan Chief Dr Sabeeha Al-masharqi, the Tehrik celebrated Youm-e-Takbeer across the country with great enthusiasm. While addressing a ceremony in Ichhra, Dr Sabeeha said today the nation was falling prey to external conspiracies like terrorism, and therefore the nation should get united against the evil intensions while learning a lesson from the past mistakes also. She said the rulers should adopt the national agenda while quitting the worship of dollars. She lauded the role of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, Dr Mubarik Mand and others who rendered their services for the nation by conducting nuclear tests. She praised the daring role of Saheed Zulifkar Ali Bhutto, General Zia-ul-Haq, Ghulam Ishaq Khan, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Agha Shahi, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, General (r) Aslam Baig and General (r) Abdul Waheed Kakkar who remained supportive for the receipt of atomic power.
