SAVING Private Ryan has been voted the greatest war movie of all time by readers.
A poll, run to coincide with the release of upcoming third person shooter Spec Ops: The Line, saw Steven Spielberg’s 1998 classic pull in more than 23% of the votes to emerge as the number one war movie ahead of Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam drama Apocalypse Now.Black Hawk Down, Ridley Scott’s film about the Battle of Mogadishu, came in third place with 8.6% of the votes, while Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket registered 8.3% of the votes.
Steve McQueen’s The Great Escape completes the top five with 6.5%.
