Substandard drinks pose health risk



LAHORE  - The sale of unhygienic beverages is on the rise in all parts of the provincial metropolis.
Vendors can be seen along roadsides selling substandard home-made drinks especially ice balls, sugarcane juice and lemon water. Their demand has risen with a sharp rise in temperatures.    
Students are the worst hit as they have no option but to take substandard drinks to cool off in the scorching heat.
Vendors say they cannot ensure high standards of their stuff as their profit margin is low because of high input prices.
Doctor M Irshad Ghumman said diseases like jaundice, cholera and diarrhea were common among regular users of substandard beverages. He appealed to concerned to take immediate action against the sale of unhygienic drinks.
