Islamabad - Crime rate in Islamabad has declined considerably due to effective crime control measures, regular vigilance and monitoring, claimed Islamabad police on Thursday. It said a comparative assessment of crime data during first five months of 2014 and 2015 revealed that the cases of murder, kidnapping for ransom, dacoity, theft, robbery, street crime and car and motorcycle lifting/snatching have considerably decreased in the capital city. Similarly, the recovery rate of illicit weapons, narcotics and stolen goods has witnessed upward trend as a result of effective crime control mechanism adopted by the Islamabad police, it further said.
During 2015, 42 murder cases have been registered in various police stations of Islamabad as compared to 69 murder cases in the corresponding period of 2104, witnessing 39 percent reduction in the crime.
Moreover, four kidnapping for ransom cases have been registered during this year as compared to five cases in 2014; 15 dacoity cases in 2015 as compared to 28 during the last year; 146 incidents of snatching as compared to 271 such cases during the last year; 112 burglary cases in 2015 as compared to 176 such cases in corresponding period of 2014 and 115 cases of snatching items in 2015 as compared to 184 in 2014.
The data revealed that car theft and bike theft cases have reduced up to 46 percent and 33 per cent respectively. A total of 198 cases of vehicle theft and 111 of bike theft have been registered in 2015 as compared to 355 cases of vehicle theft and 165 cases of bike theft in the corresponding period of 2014.  
The statement further said Islamabad police remained successful against drug pushers and those possessing illegal weapons.
The data shows that 344 cases of arms recovery were registered in 2015 as compared to 319 cases in 2014 while 330 cases of narcotics recovery were lodged as compared to 297 in first five months of 2014. “On the special directions of Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, IGP Islamabad took special security and crime-control measures to assure protection of life and property of citizens,” the statement added.
