LAHORE - PTI on Monday welcomed Pakistan army’s decision to order inquiry against ex-DG ISI Asad Durrani while also demanding similar action against ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under the provisions of the Official Secrets Act.
Addressing a press conference here at Chairman’s secretariat, PTI’s Information Secretary Fawad Ch said the news of General Duran’s being placed on the ECL was a welcome step because he had been a controversial figure since his appointment as DG ISI.
Fawad termed the initiation of inquiry against Lt.General (R) Durrani a positive development, saying that he had been facing varying allegations in different times.
“Like Mr Durrani, Nawaz Sharif has also acted in violation of his oath. Nawaz has spoken lies on matters of national security thereby damaging country’s credibility”, he observed.
PTI’s spokesperson believed that Nawaz Sharif’s statements were even more dangerous than the disclosures made in General Duran’s book. Fawad demanded of the federal government to take action against Nawaz Sharif under the provisions of Official Secrets Act. He said his name should also be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Talking about the nomination of Justice (R) Nasir-ul-Mulk as caretaker prime minister, he said it was a welcome step. “He is very well aware of the rigging issues of 2013 elections, but his credentials to conduct free and fair elections will be known after the polls”. he added.
On the corruption scandal in the Punjab government’s companies, he said that audit of 11 companies out of total 56 had revealed that a staggering amount of Rs 166 billion was embezzled in different projects. “The names of Zaeem Qadri, Awais Leghari, Khawaja Hassan and Khawaja Asif have appeared in this regard. Now it is responsibility of the NAB and the incoming government to initiate action against these politicians.” he said.
Fawad Ch said that if the PTI is voted to power after the elections, it will order fresh audit into the accounts different projects executed by the PML-N government. He said that Ishaq Dar was on record having said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismael have destroyed country’s economy. Trade deficit has reached 59.4 per cent while 22,000 crore rupees have been added to the foreign debt, he further stated.
Replying to a question about nomination of KP caretaker chief minister, Fawad said that the name of Manzoor Afridi had just appeared in the media but KP government had not made any such announcement. He said PTI Chairman had rejected his nomination as caretaker chief minister and consultation process will be started a fresh for the purpose.
