Ijtihad termed remedy for agony of Ummah

The solution to all problems being faced by Muslim Ummah lies in Ijtihad. The true spirit of Islamic culture, according to poet-philosopher Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, is democracy that not only turns a crowd into a nation but also leads it to its destination,’ expressed Justice (r) Dr Javed Iqbal, son of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal in a grand and historic ceremony held here in connection birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal at University of Sargodha on Thursday. The ceremony was presided over by UoS Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhry. Other distinguished guests included Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal, renowned journalist Altaf Hussain Qureshi and famous columnist Nigar Rauf Tahir. The chief guest Justice (r) Javed Iqbal said that it was only Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal who not only understood the real cause of pains and sufferings of the Muslims of the subcontinent but also gave their solutions. It is the need of the hour to understand the philosophy of the poet of the East. He was loud and clear that we, the Muslim world, can retain its lost seat of honour and leadership once again by applying the thoughts of Dr Iqbal in our lives through education.
Justice (r) Nasira Javed Iqbal was of the opinion that we should be self-reliant to stand shoulder to shoulder with the modern world. We should not rely on others but on our own forces to create new worlds of success. She highlighted and stressed that women should come forward and play their active role in the nation development along with men-folk. Altaf Hussain Qureshi said that the combination of hard work and determination leads to a glorious future. He was all praise for the UoS for upholding the beliefs of Allama Iqbal and educating the students with his philosophy. In his speech, Rauf Tahir said that Iqbal is such a poet who kindles the light of hope through thick darkness of desperation.
He said that if he were alive he would have declared the UoS students as his shaheen.
In his presidential address, Dr Akram Ch eloquently said that Iqbal stands top among all the distinguished poets and philosophers of the world. He has been bestowed with the honour because his poetry is a true reflection of the holy Quran. He was all praise for Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, the son of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who graced the occasion with his presence. He said that the country is facing the worst times in its history and only the concept of khudee can lead us out of the current turmoil.
UoS Public Relations Director Dr Hussain Piracha said that the whole university was on its heels to have a glimpse of Justice (r) Javed Iqbal and to listen to his precious words. He threw some light on the significance of the ceremony, saying that the sole purpose of the programme was to make the students aware of the ideology of Iqbal.
It is to be mentioned here around 10,000 students attended the ceremony with great display of discipline.
