Injury-hit Takahashi out of GP Final

TOKYO - Japan's former world champion Daisuke Takahashi has pulled out of the December 5-7 figure skating Grand Prix Final because of a leg injury, the Japan Skating Federation said Thursday. Takahashi, 27, the defending Grand Prix Final champion who won the Vancouver Olympic bronze medal and the world championship gold in 2010, felt pain in his right leg during training on the ice on Tuesday. He was found to have a bruised right shin bone and will need to stay put for about two weeks for treatment, the federation said. Takahashi finished fourth in the season-opening Grand Prix, Skate America, but won the home Grand Prix, the NHK Trophy, to qualify for the final, which brings together the top six finishers in each category in the six-round series.–AFP
