LAHORE - After revelation about a dead lizard in a Wednesday evening meal for women inmates in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat prison, the Supreme Court has called an inquiry report from the jail authorities.
A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani, held proceedings Thursday after a suo moto on media reports about some women prisoners falling sick from hazardous meal served at Kot Lakhpat jail.
Prisons DIG Malik Mubashir, appearing before the court on a short notice, said an inquiry had been initiated and within 24 hours the court would have a report before it. He submitted that apparently it happened while distributing food among prisoners. He told the bench that the lizard might have fallen into one of the three buckets of chicken curry. Punjab Prisons Inspector General Farooq Nazeer also appeared before the court.
