ISLAMABAD - The government and opposition are serious to resolve the issue of the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner, as opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah on Friday expressed the hope to finally appoint a regular CEC till December 1.
Khursheed, who returned Pakistan after a two-week visit abroad, said, “We are following proper constitutional way for the appointment of CEC, thus the process is bit late.”
He said this while addressing a press conference at his chamber in the National Assembly on Friday.
Earlier, both PM Nawaz and opposition leader had exchanged five names i.e. Justice (r) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui, Justice (r) Ajmal Mian, Justice (r) Rana Bhagwan Das, Justice (r) Tariq Pervaiz and former Justice (r) Tassud Hussian Jilani to choose a suitable name.
“We want to evolve consensus on the appointment of CEC so other parties were also taken into confidence...We can’t bring angels, CEC will be selected from these names,” said the opposition leader. “Today, the PM called me for the appointment of CEC but I was busy at that time,” he added.
