Laws stressed to curb violence against women

SHERGARH- The government should enact laws to curb domestic violence against women and premature and forced marriages.
This was stated by Ms Arifa Mumtaz while addressing a ceremony titled ‘Apnon ki Yaad’ organised by Aurat Foundation in UC-9 the other day. The event was attended by a large number of women hailing from different spheres of life including educated women, labourers, teachers and housewives. The women who have faced domestic violence and other unfair practices were also invited to the ceremony. The women discussed their problems and strongly condemned the biased attitudes and practices against them. The participants demanded the Pakistan government should enact laws to weed out domestic violence against women, their premature and forced marriages.
The participants reiterated their resolve to eradicate immoral and un-Islamic practices from their area.
