ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) annual general council meeting was held here at the PTF Tennis Complex under the chair of its president Dr Syed Kaleem Imam on Friday.
All the 14 affiliated units, Punjab, KP, Balochistan, Sindh, IC Pakistan, Senior Tennis Association, PAF, Navy, Army, POF and Islamabad Tennis Association attended the meeting. Kaleem announced that he would not contest in the forthcoming elections and thanked all the affiliated units for their contribution for the promotion of tennis in the country during his tenure.
The council also approved minutes of last special general council meeting held in 2013 as well as expenditure for the year 2013 and 2014. The council also appreciated the activities of the PTF and its units during the last four years. Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Asian Games and other international event were also discussed. The council thanked Kaleem for his tireless efforts and appreciated his efforts for the promotion of the game. PTF patron Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas and Kh Saeed Hai also appreciated the role of Kaleem. The council also thanked PTF secretary Mumtaz Yousaf.
Kaleem in consultation with council members unanimously approved the date for the forthcoming elections December 12. Iftikhar Rashid was appointed as chief election commissioner, while POA and PSB will send their representatives as members of the election commission.
Talking to The Nation, Kaleem said: “I am very satisfied with the work, I have done in the last four years. I am quite sure the new management will not only carry on the good work of mine but also introduce fresh ideas and ensure Pakistan tennis climb new heights. I am very grateful to all the council members, my team and entire tennis community for their tremendous support and above all players, who performed brilliantly and won laurels for the country.
“My support will always remain with the PTF. As a player, tennis is my passion, and I have given my son Nofil Kaleem Imam to the sport who has already shown tremendous results and potential. I have scarified his studies and I am sure he will not disappoint the nation and try his level best to take giant strides and continue to perform well for the country.”
