Rawalpindi - The Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) Rawalpindi Region has issued notices to land revenue department, Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) and Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency seeking record of a public park called “Chinar Park” located at Satellite Town occupied by land grabbers, informed sources on Tuesday.

The notices were issued to Assistant Commissioner (AC) Saddar Division Tasnim Ali Khan, RTMA official Pir Shehzad and the Director General (DG) Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency by Circle Officer (CO) ACE Amjad Shehzad, sources added.

In compliance with the notice, a representative of AC Saddar has appeared before the investigators and recorded statement on part of AC, they said.

However, the reply of two other parties is yet to be submitted, sources added.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has referred a civil petition filed by Punjab Housing and Town Planning Authority to Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench to decide the case on merit.

According to sources, a citizen named Shahid Pervaiz lodged a complaint with ACE stating he approached RTMA for approval of design of a house he wanted to build in F-Block. However, the RTMA raised objection that the land is allocated for Public Park and therefore no residential or commercial building can be constructed on the land, sources added. They said that ACE while accepting the application has served the heads of three departments with notices and sought their reply in this regard. An investigator of ACE Rawalpindi Region told The Nation that a land mafia had grabbed the land originally allocated for construction of the Public Park and had sold plots to citizens for construction of houses.

He said that Sultan Mehmood (late) managed to prepare bogus registries of land and then got the land transferred in his name through a court order.

On this, Punjab Housing and Town Planning Authority approached SCP making Ms Asma Hamid, Addl AG Punjab, Rashid Hafeez, Addl AG and M Attique Kiani, ASC and sought review of the decision.

A three member bench headed by CJ SCP Saqib Nisar in their verdict laid on 10/11/2017 transferred the case to LHC Rawalpindi bench and directed it to decide the matter according to law and the merits.

RTMA has launched an operation and demolished the illegal construction there.
