KARACHI - A robber was killed and his accomplice injured in an exchange of fire with the police near Coast Guards Headquarter on Tuesday morning. In wake of cross fire, a rickshaw driver also died when a bullet hit him while he was passing from the area. According to police sources the two robbers, in their young age, robbed a person coming out of a bank near Islamia College at new MA Jinnah Road in Preedy police precincts and deprived him of his cash and mobile phone and escaped on a motorcycle. The victim, however, chased him and near Naz Plaza narrated his woe to a police mobile and told them about the fleeing robbers. The police mobile gave a chase to culprits and intercepted them near Coast Guards Headquarters where an exchange of fire took place in which one of the robber was killed and his accomplice injured who was taken to hospital, said SHO Sohrab Khan Meo. In the crossfire, a rickshaw (bearing number D-22234) driver, Mujeeb Zar Khan aged 65, was also hit by a flying bullet and died. He was the resident of Qasba Colony, Orangi Town. The deceased culprit was identified as Ilyas Baloch, 35, and the injured as Sohail. Both are the residents of Kalakot, Lyari. Police, however, recovered the snatched mobile phone, wallet of the complainant and two pistols and a snatched motorcycle from their possession and registered the case. Meanwhile, a 32-year-old passer-by woman, Kiran Khalid, sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of fire between the rangers and robbers. According to details, four alleged robbers in a car (AQA-734) were tried to escape after robbing pedestrians. Two other unidentified robbers were managed to escape from the scene leaving the car under the cover of firing. The incident took place at Shadman Number 2 in North Nazimabad police precincts when the rangers personnel signalled them to stop but they opened fire. The injured woman was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
