LAHORE - Punjab University, Government College Lahore University, National College of Arts and fourteen other educational institutions will remain closed on Thursday (today) due to security concerns on the eve of visit of US Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Hillary Clinton in City. All these universities, colleges and schools are located on the route of the VVIP guests. The closure is part of the security arrangement and an effort to reduce traffic rush in the City. US Secretary of State will visit Government College University to attend functions specially arranged in her honour there. She is also likely to visit Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque and also to call on PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind. A number of private universities and colleges on Raiwind have also been closed. Heavy security contingent will be deployed at various places to guard the entire route from airport to various destinations in the City. The traffic on the major roads on the route will also remain suspended in the morning. The unprecedented security arrangements have been made in view of the prevalent situation in the country and the fresh wave of terrorist attacks on educational institutes. The one such example was a deadly attack at International Islamic University, Islamabad recently. Over 70 schools, colleges and universities in City are already closed due to lack of security arrangements as required by the government while negotiations for their re-opening is continuing between the government and representatives of private institutions. It is expected that these institutions will re-open on Monday next.
