ISLAMABAD Former Davis Cupper Hameed-ul-Haq outclassed Heera Ashiq 2-0 in the first round of the mens singles event of the 8th Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship here at PTF Tennis Complex on Thursday. The final score-line was 7-6 and 6-3. Hameed, 49, displayed excellent skills of the game to overcome his 19 years old challenger Heera Ashiq. He also proved that he is still fit enough to topple the top notch lot that the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) boats of producing. Heera, who represented Pakistan in the international events, could not create any problem for his almost 50 years old opponent. In the first set, both players played excellent strokes and score was levelled 6-6. However, on tiebreak, Hameed played some classy strokes to earn 1-0 lead. In the second set, veteran Hameed did not allow Heera to settle in the court and finished the game 6-3. Hameed will take on top seed Aqeel Khan in the next round of the championship on Friday at same venue. Also, Aqeel Khan, Jaleel Khan, Samir Iftikhar and Asim Shafik advanced to the next round of the Championship. Aqeel Khan and Jaleel Khan faced no resistance from their respective opponents and qualified for next round of the mens singles category. In Boys Juniors U-18, Sadan-ul-Haq, Samir Iftikhar, Heera Ashiq and Zohair Raza reached next round. Samir outclassed his opponent Wasil Kaleem in both sets and played beautiful tennis. In boys U-14 category, Nofel Kaleem, Waqas Ahmed and Yousaf Khan qualified for next round. In girls U-18 category, Ayesha Aziz, Areeb Abbasi, Mahnoor Asghar and Nayab Humayun reached quarter-finals.
