I'm not afraid of judges, generals, says Asma

LAHORE - Newly-elected SCBA President Asma Jahangir on Thursday said she would not take dictation from anyone, as she was not afraid of anybody including judges, generals and rulers. I have been an independent woman throughout my life, and I am not scared of army, establishment, judges, the prime minister and the president, she said while talking to media persons on the LHC premises on her thanksgiving visit to the Court after the election. Asma said relations with all institutions or persons would be established on basis of equality. They will be respected, if they respect us, she added. Dispelling the impression she is against the judiciary, she said such propaganda should be shunned, as she had decades-old relation with the judiciary. I believe in independence of the judiciary, and paid price for the cause in the past, she said. Speaking about the media and its role, she said she strongly believed in freedom of the press. On the occasion, a large number of Asmas supporters rallied around her and chanted slogans in her favour. Sweets were also distributed.
