ISLAMABAD Editor-in-Chief Nawa-i-Waqt Group of Publications Majid Nizami has warned India to mend its ways before things go out of hand and it has to pay through nose. He was addressing a huge gathering arranged in recognition of his journalistic services by Majlis-e-Tehreek-e-Karkunan-e-Pakistan here on Thursday. India should realise that Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan. The people of Kashmir are struggling to get independence, if India does not give up its highhandedness, it would see endless destruction, the legendary journalist warned. Recalling those days when he took a firm stance against brutal dictatorial regimes, Majid Nizami gave a comprehensive account as to how he stood firm against the aristocratic policies of former dictators Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia-ul-Haq and Pervaiz Musharraf. Nizami mentioned that during a meeting with Zia-ul-Haq, he had asked the military dictator bluntly, General sahib, when are you going to spare this nation? and the blunt question had astonished the ruling General. The veteran journalist also recalled the days of year 1998, when he had played an instrumental role to persuade the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to conduct nuclear tests asking him, Mian sahib, you conduct nuclear tests or else, I would conduct your nuclear tests He said that the evil intrigues of India would never succeed and the people of Kashmir would see the light of independence very soon. Its the legacy of Indian government and leaders, they only understand the language of force. If India doesnt respect the wishes of Kashmiris, the people like me and other patriot Pakistanis would shatter that country to countless bits, he warned. Federal Minister Babar Awan said that Majid Nizami was the man of highly respectable character and he could not be bought or subdued. Today, media is not like what it used to be once. Now, wishes form news, imagination forms agendas and propaganda form most of the papers and TV channels. Still, there are people like Majid Nizami who cannot be bought and who are miles apart from cheap journalism, he said. Awan praised the agenda of Nawa-i-Waqt Group to promote national interests and hoped that under the guidance of Majid Nizami, the media group would touch new heights of success. President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Zulqarnain said, the spark of independence, which Hamid Nizami and his brother Majid Nizmai had provoked within the hearts of Kashmiris, would engulf the entire India and Kashmir would be liberated from Indian occupation very soon. On this occasion, let me say that without Majid Nizami and his late brother Hamid Nizami, the Kashmir cause would never have been so much popular in Pakistan and international community could not be sensitised without the efforts of Nawa-i-Waqt Group, he said. Jamat-e-Islami leader Professor Khurshid said that the dailies like Nawa-i-Waqt and TheNation, and TV channels like Waqt News were the custodians of the ideology of Pakistan. I pray, may Majid Nizami live a long and healthy life and keep striving in pursuit of the national causes, he added. General (Retd) Hamid Gul also paid profound homage to Majid Nizami and noted that after the death of Hamid Nizami, it was Majid Nizami who accomplished his brothers mission. Nobody can dare destabilise this country because people like Majid Nizami are present among us who would foil the evil designs of enemy, he added. Several other speakers including journalists, politicians and intellectuals also paid profound tributes to the services of Majid Nizami. Later, Editor-in-Chief Nawa-I-Waqt Group Majid Nizami was presented souvenirs and cheques for the help of flood victims. A pictorial presentation was also held to throw light on the achievements of the legend Nizami in projecting Pakistans national interests.
