Sugarcane growers' problems to be solved

LAHORE - Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa has said that the problems of sugarcane growers will be solved on priority basis to increase production of sugarcane in the province. He said this while presiding over a meeting of Committee on Development of High Recovery Sugarcane in Punjab held at CMs Secretariat on Thursday. Minister for Agriculture Ahmad Ali Aulakh, Members Provincial Assembly Ch Ijaz Shafi, Rao Kashif Rahim, Secretaries of Agriculture and Food Departments, Cane Commissioner Punjab attended the meeting besides other high-ranking officials. He said that provincial government wanted to encourage industries in the province and will provide every possible facility to the industrialists besides safeguarding interests of sugarcane growers whose exploitation at hands of owners of the sugar mills would not be tolerated. He said the committee would prepare recommendations to solve the problems of sugarcane growers and to remove the bottlenecks and send them for the final approval of the CM Punjab. Meanwhile, presiding over the meeting of cabinet committee on concurrent list Khosa has directed the high ranking officials of provincial administration to speed up working on the formulation of powers and duties of the depts under the 18th amendment as the concurrent has been omitted and majority of the subject matters stood evolved on to the provinces. He directed to take necessary steps for the change in rules of business for concerned departments after the changed situation in the light of abolition of concurrent list, as early as possible. Sardar Khosa also directed that funds and assets to be handed over to the provinces should be utilized for the welfare of the people and the respective departments should adopt a clear-cut policy and make amendment in rules of business wherever required. The participants of the committee were briefed regarding various departments after the abolition of concurrent list as well as regarding proposed amendments in the relevant laws. The meeting was attended by Punjab Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan, Chief Secretary, SMBR, secretaries of P&D, information, law, labour, home and population welfare departments besides high ranking officials.
