LAHORE - Former president of Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir has said the present procedure for appointment of judges in higher judiciary is not based on merit and urged the Judicial Commission to adopt recommendations of the Pakistan Bar Council in this regard.

Talking to reporters at Lahore High Court on Monday, she was of the view that neither the judges were not being appointed on merit nor common citizens were being provided justice by the courts.

He further said that the Chief Justices of high courts should not take suo motu notices as the Constitution did not allow them. She also suggested that right of appeal should be available against the decisions of Supreme Court in addition to right of review.
