NEW YORK-Miley Cyrus declares herself as cool punk rock underdog and says society wants to shut her down!

She was said to have been left devastated after her break-up with fiance Liam Hemsworth this past August.

But Miley Cyrus has now insisted that she's perfectly happy being single. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, the 20-year-old chats frankly about her split with The Hunger Games actor.

I need to treat my music like a relationship – give it my time and all the attention it deserves – and that’s my main love right now,' she says. 'This is the best time of my life. I'm not going to look back on it and be like, 'I wish I hadn’t been dwelling over a breakup,' you know?'

In addition to opening up about Liam, Cyrus also confronted the critics who didn't care for her performance on MTV's Video Music Awards. Last August, the diva attracted a slew of criticism for her risqué performance at this year's VMA awards alongside Robin Thicke. But Miley is unrepentant about her 'haters,' while declaring herself a 'cool punk rock underdog.'

She tells the magazine's December issue: 'Everything is so chaotic and crazy right now...I'm literally what everyone is talking about.

'I don’t want to say that I’m on top right now – I feel like I’m kind of an underdog in a cool way. It’s almost punk rock to like me because it’s not the right thing to do. Like, society wants to shut me down.'  Miley claims to be surprised at the furore she created at the awards show, which saw her perform lewd acts Blurred Lines singer. 'When people started complaining about the awards show, I was like, "Have you never seen the video?' she said.

'And what if I hadn’t done that performance? The VMAs would have been bad. They would have been missing something. The show was kind of making fun of how serious the pop industry is.' On the front cover of Cosmopolitan, Miley dazzles in a barely there gold mini-dress decorated with sequins and jewels.
