KARACHI  - Muttahida Qaumi Movement has challenged the Sindh Local Government Act 2013, terming it against the spirit of the Constitution.

In this regard, MQM’s Dr Farooq Sattar along with Senator Farrukh Naseem filed a petition in the Supreme Court Karachi registry on Monday.

Addressing the mediamen outside the court, Sattar said MQM does not want to delay the local bodies’ election scheduled for November 27, but having reservations over the SLGA 2013, the party has moved the courts.

He said the MQM had prayed to the apex court to declare this Act void or order amendments in various articles of it such as giving control of education and transport to the local governments.  He said the Local Government System should be in accordance with the Article 140 of the Constitution. “SLGA 2013 is actually an imitation of the Local Bodies System of 1979,” he added.
