Police take action against jirga members

SWAT -  Swat police came into action by taking stern action against the Jirga members involved in the unlawful practice of Swara.
Some days back The Nation highlighted fresh cases of Swara in Swat valley where five girls, including two minors, were given in Swara in Kalam and Matta tehsils.
So far Matta police claimed to have arrested six members of the jirga and registered FIR against them by imposing section 310-A under the constitution. The accused were identified as Mohammad Iqbal son of Bahrimand, Suleman son of Gul Rehman, Habibullah son of Gul Rehman, Salar son of Zareen, Fazal Jamil son of Fazal Mulla and Shahzada son of Nazir, residents of Matta. Police informed The Nation that all the culprits were moved to Timergara Central Jail.
Talking to The Nation, Superintendent of Police Naveed Khan said that it is very clear that this practice is totally unconstitutional and un-Islamic, adding that culprits of Swara happened in Kalam area were also arrested and sent behind the bars.
“Police are vigilant and taking strong action against people involved in Swara cases. Police will treat them under the law,” he added. Answering to a question, he said that police are improving their network sharing to take speedy action on Swara case.
