RAWALPINDI - Secretary Excise and Taxation Punjab Shahid Ashraf Tarrar has said that suggestions of Rawalpindi Chamber regarding property tax issue would be given priority and department was mulling to gradually increase the tax ratio instead of sudden raise. He said that there were misconceptions about property tax among the masses, saying that Excise Department has started work on computerization of all records and soon it would be uploaded on website.

Facilitating business community was our top priority and logical suggestions would be given preference in this regard.

He was exchanging these views with President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Dr Shimail Daud Arain during his visit to the RCCI here on Monday. Group Leader Sheikh Shabbir, former presidents Sohail Altaf, Najam Rehan, Dr. Hassan Sarosh Akram Senior Vice President Malik Shahid Saleem, Vice President Muhammad Alam Chughtai, leaders of trade associations of City and Cantt and other members of the Chamber were also present on the occasion.

Secretary Excise and Taxation said that a Dispute Resolution Committee would be formed to address the problems faced by business community and no stone would be left unturned in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, President RCCI Dr Shimail Daud said that business community was confused about the property tax survey and motto of today’s meeting was to know the real picture of the issue. He said that last increase in property tax ratio was noticed in 2001 and this was the government stance behind increasing tariffs of said tax and justified it by saying that after 13 years the recent increase was logical but on the other hand business community has its own logics.

President RCCI said that business community was aware of the problems faced by the government but government must realize the suffering of the businessmen community. He added that Rawalpindi Chamber suggested the government to decrease the tax ratio and increase it in step by step process to facilitate business community. He also appreciated the efforts of excise & taxation to providing online services to masses.
