RAWALPINDI:  Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Khalid Masood Chaudhry has said that Muharram-ul-Haram is the month of reverence and respect for the Muslims of all schools of thought and that Ulema should promote harmony and tolerance during this month especially to help maintain peace, and law and order.

He said that all-out security would be provided to majalis and mourning processions, and for this purpose a comprehensive plan would also be implemented with the coordination of all concerning departments, and religious scholars and leaders. He said that Ulema from all schools of thought should help the administration identify elements promoting religious hatred through provoking speeches and graffiti so that peace and religious harmony could be maintained during Muharram.

The commissioner expressed these views in a meeting with representative Ulema of all schools of thought and members of district peace committees.  Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sheikh Zaeem Iqbal, DCOs of all four districts and some political leaders attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Ulema assured all-out support to the administration to maintain law and order during the month of Muharram. –Staff Reporter
