PESHAWAR- Director General Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said today that operation Zarb-e-Azb against militants in North Waziristan was progressing well and around 1,100 militants had been killed in the military offensive.
Addressing a press briefing, he stated that 132 tons of explosives were recovered and subsequently destroyed and disposed in North Waziristan during the operation. Besides, 12,000 weapons of different calibers are seized during the military offensive, he added.
According to Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa, Pakistani armed forces have cleared Mir Ali, Miranshah, Razmak areas of North Waziristan from the militants. He added that over 199 terrorist had surrendered so far.
“You people would have been hearing about recent airstrikes these days. The air raids are being conducted in Datta Khel area,” he said.
To a question, Major Bajwa said no time frame could be given when operation Zarb-e-Azb would end. The ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb is in progress against all kind of terrorists, Bajwa emphasised.
“The action would be taken indiscriminately against each militant no matter which group he belongs to,” the DG ISPR said.
On a query, he lamented the fact that Kabul had not cooperated the way they should to root out terrorists in Kunar and other areas of Afghanistan. More than 44 militants have been killed so far, while over 100 terrorists have surrendered to the military in Khyber Agency, where the spokesman said Operation ‘Khyber 1’ is underway.
While issuing advisory, the DG ISPR urged the local public to inform Frontier Corps regarding any suspicious person or activity in their respective areas.
He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has chalked out a security plan for the Holy month of Muharram. The provincial government has requested Pakistan Army to deploy troops in 134 sensitive localities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We will send military personnel wherever needed as per the government’s request,” Bajwa added.
