Various Kashmiri leaders commented on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's recent visit to the United States and his address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

They termed the PM's visit fruitful as the US, for the first time, had called for early solution to the Kashmir issue to ensure everlasting peace in South Asia.

All Jammu & Kashmir Muslim Conference Central Vice President Jamil Ahmed Tabbasam said that the prime minister forcefully raised Kashmir issue before the US leadership for the sake of establishment of peace in South Asia in particular and the world over in general. He (Nawaz) stressed that through the early peaceful solution to Kashmir issue in line with the international norms, commitments and according to the aspirations of the Kashmiris, Jamil added.

Jamil, also a renowned leader of UK-based Kashmiri expatriates, said that it was for the first time that a Prime Minister of Pakistan made the American government realise that Kashmir issue was a matter of extremely serious nature. And it should be settled without further loss of time in the greater interest of regional and global peace, he added.

He said that the people of AJK and overseas Kashmiris were thankful to the prime minister for effectively apprising the US leadership including President Obama, Secretary of State John Carry, institution of Security and Defense and other top US forums, of the Indian involvement in Sindh, Baluchistan and some other parts of Pakistan for creating disturbance through harbouring Afghanistan-based terrorists there.

Strongly appreciating Mr Nawaz for taking up the urgent need of early peaceful solution to the issue, Ittehad Group of the Central Traders Organization Mirpur President Chaudhry Mahmood said, "Nawaz Sharif has strongly represented the Kashmir dispute during his visit to the UN and the United States."

Talking to newsmen, he said that apprising the US leadership of the nefarious aggressive and negative designs of India in the region was a highly praiseworthy act of the prime minister. As such, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has truly and boldly represented the sentiments of the people of Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir."

The Kashmiri business community leader urged that national Kashmir policy be formed in the country under the same strong spirit and stance, as the prime minister has unequivocally expressed during his visit to the US.
