LAHORE - With two days left in LB polls in Punjab, the Punjab Minister for Finance Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha distributed vehicles on Wednesday, thanks to an old running scheme.

The minister addressing participants at the third balloting event under ‘Punjab Self-Employment Scheme’, said that the scheme introduced with collaboration of Punjab government and Bank of Punjab is highly transparent.

She said that around 35,000 people have been benefitted by the scheme so far.

The scheme will provide 50,000 vehicles (25000 Suzuki Bolan and 25,000 Ravi) to successful applicants. The repayment is to be done in 60 monthly installments at 0% markup rate. The Punjab government will subsidize markup by 100%. The delivery of vehicles was started from 20th March 2015 and the Bank of Punjab has completed deliveries of 35,000 vehicles till now.

Announcing names of winners, Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha said that most of the youth winning this balloting belong to South Punjab which is a proof that Punjab government did not ignore any part of the province. She said that women have also been given equal representation to in the scheme. She said that women are also earning livelihood for their families. The Finance Minister said that youth are assets of the country and unemployment is creating disappointment among them. She said that crime will also reduce in the society through success of such schemes.

Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha congratulated all the youth on behalf of Chief Minister Punjab and Finance Department and prayed for their success. She also thanked Bank of Punjab and Transport Department for making this scheme a success. Group Head Bank of Punjab Taimur Afzal appreciating the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab said that 99 percent recovery to Bank of Punjab is the biggest proof of the success of “apni gari apna kaam” scheme.

Earlier, representatives of World Bank also met Provincial Finance Minister for consultation about reforms in tax policies. Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha told that a fiscal monitoring committee has been constituted for increasing development budget and ensuring recovery of taxes which comprises Secretary Finance, Secretary Planning & Development, AG Punjab and Additional Finance Secretary as permanent members.

Meanwhile, Advisor to CM Punjab for Economic Affairs Dr Ijaz Nabi has said that Punjab Planning & Development Department is playing an important role to devise growth strategy in the province and develop continuous coordination with departments so that speedy development could be made possible. Secretary Planning & Development Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, DG Monitoring and Evaluation Dr Sajjad Mubeen, Senior Coordination and Planning Officer Javed Latif and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
