BADIN : Large number of people turned up on the first day of two-day Laar Festival, which got underway here on Saturday.

PPP Senator Sausi Palijo along with PPP leader Mohammad Ismail Rahu, Akbar Leghari, Dr Ghafoor Memon and others declared the event open, and expressed the hope that the mega event, organised by the Culture and Tourism Department, would not only project the culture of lower Sindh but would also encourage the people to participate in healthy activities. 

Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Sausai said that such kinds of festivals would not only provide entertainment to the youth, but would also help boost the tourism sector by promoting the rich culture of the region.

She further said that areas of lower Sindh, including Badin, Thatta and Sujawal districts, had always been the hub of rich culture and bastion of brave rulers, warriors and literary and cultural giants . She said that PPP government in Sindh had given special attention not only to the promotion of culture of the province, but had also tried its best to preserve the heritage and historical sites of the province.

She was of the view that the best way to fight against religious fanaticism and radicalization was to promote the Sufi culture and act upon the messages of Sufis.
