OKARA/SARGODHA  -  Two alleged dacoits, wanted in various cases, were shot dead in a shootout with police while another managed to escape the scene.

According to the Basirpur CIA Staff police, the shootout took place in the wee hours of Saturday. The police informed that both the dacoits had killed two traders recently. The Basirpur CIA Staff Police were busy checking vehicles at a picket when they spotted three dacoits, fleeing on a bike they had just snatched from a person.

The police signalled them to stop but they fired gunshots on the policemen and attempted to flee the scene. The police, however, retaliated, killing two dacoits on the spot while their third accomplice succeeded in fleeing the scene under the cover of darkness.

Later, both the dead dacoits were identified as Tanveer alias Tanni and Shaukat alias Shoki. The police also recovered weapon and motorcycle from the spot. The dead bodies were carried to Okara DHQ Hospital for autopsy.

DPO Hassan Asad Alvi told the media that both the dead dacoits had shot dead two traders - Haji Khadim Hussain and Naeem, and injured another during dacoity some two weeks ago. The police officer has constituted teams to trace and arrest the runaway dacoit.

In Sargodha, three cops sustained gunshot wounds in shootout with outlaws while an SHO along with four policemen was held hostage by the criminals.

According to police sources, a Laksian Police team, led by SHO Ahmed Khan, on a tip-off, conducted a search operation in village Saidowana. As soon as the outlaws spotted the policemen, they started firing on them. Resultantly, three policemen - Ikram, Ejaz and Shahid Imran got bullet wounds. In the meanwhile, a group of the criminals held hostage SHO Ahmed Khan along with the injured cops. They bound the cops hand and foot and locked them in a room before fleeing the scene.

On information, different police teams rushed to the spot and released the hostage cops. The police launched a thorough search after cordoning off the area.
