Our well-fed animals

It has been reported by the citizens that as the 'Sasta Atta' costs only Rs. 10/- per kg and the wheat brawn Rs. 13/- per kg, the former has started to find its way into the livestock feed. Currently, milch buffaloes are being fed on 'Sasta Atta' instead of wheat brawn to increase their milk production at several places in Punjab including Narowal and Sargodha. The authorities ought to look into this issue as the subsidized price of flour could lead to undesirable situation where the dairy owners would find it lucrative to use cheap flour in place of costly wheat brawn (chokar) as animal feed. This would obviously defeat the very purpose of the 'Sasta Atta' scheme. -DR. M. YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, September 24.
